Biographical or Historical Data
Stage line between Boston and Concord, Mass., operated by William Shepherd (1796-1883), keeper of the Coffee House on Main Street in Concord and later of a large hotel in Manchester, N.H., active Freemason, and member of the Social Circle in Concord. The line carried passengers and made deliveries on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Using the services of Concord lawyer Nathan Brooks, Shepherd sold his share in the business in 1839, when he moved to Manchester. The records show that Jonathan Buttrick and Obadiah Kendall were involved with Shepherd in the stage line.
