During the 2004 World Series, one question gripped baseball fans: Would the curse fall or strike again? The Boston Red Sox sought, and won, their first World Series title since 1918, against the St. Louis Cardinals, in their first appearance since 1987. In a series between two baseball-crazed towns, with the powerhouse team from the banks of the mighty Mississippi, Boston got all of the attention, thanks to the legendary curse that had plagued them for almost a century. Some of the league's biggest stars were playing, but individuals were overshadowed by the game's folklore. While it was a memorable Series for the Boston faithful, for the rest of the world it was a bit disappointing-maybe even anticlimactic-as the game's most legendary curse fell without a fight, without many gripping do-or-die moments.
